    This video is crazy..

It makes me think about women who go through painful relaxers and burning perms to change their hair. Is there a difference between this and skin bleaching? Is this entrenched in the tradition of chinese foot binding, british corsets and other disfiguring practices that people engage in, to feel better about themselves or to fit into a racist, or patriarchal or sexist society. Or is it something deeper? This clearly speaks to black self-hatred, a longing to look white, to get jobs, to get married, etc.

This made me very sad. And Pierce, it seems it also speaks to the fact that society, as well as the world has given us the idea and impression, that being white is better. They have made this idea so solid that it even brings people to these atrocities.
